Clinical Education

All of our educational programs have been designed for instructor-led or self-study for FTE budgeting, employee scheduling, daily staffing, workforce management reporting, designing and operationalizing central staffing or resource management centers with resource or float pools, and best practices.

Education programs can be customized, upon request, to be organization and industry-specific and designed to meet inter-departmental needs. LMI is a provider of RN Contact Hours through the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Clinical Staffing and Scheduling Certification

This program concentrates on the essential skills necessary to develop, manage, evaluate, and optimize scheduling and staffing in alignment with FTE budgets, position control, and regulatory requirements.  Learn how to build and defend budgets and positions when meeting with senior leaders, finance and/or productivity committees.

This 4-day evidence-based program (theory and application) is designed for unit level managers and any other positions responsible for budgeting and/or employee scheduling. Human Resource, Finance and Service Line Leaders are encouraged to attend.

Course Objectives

  • Assess and stabilize a CORE staffing plan that incorporates components of an integrated workforce model.
  • Identify the components of Best Practice in Budgeting, Scheduling, Staffing Resource Team and Management Information.
  • Apply best practices for budget compliance by reducing overtime and enhancing performance improvement.
  • Prepare a schedule and initiate a staffing plan based on patient need with the right full time and part time staff mix.
  • Audit staff schedules and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Determine the factors in scheduling/staffing that impact patient outcomes and fiscal accountability.

Clinical Resource Leader Certification

This evidence-based program concentrates on the strategies for developing the operational structure and FTEs to support the staffing/resource office and float pool(s).  This program will help you develop the business case necessary to finance the pool size and scope of service.  You will learn about reports to optimize service delivery and shared accountability across all units/departments that are supported.

This 3-day evidence-based program (theory and application) is designed for staffing coordinators or managers of the resource center, directors of nursing administration, financial analysts or decision support personnel. It concentrates on leadership and strategic staffing, scheduling and labor management principles to improve workforce performance and enhance the workplace environment.

  • Identify 2 trends related to manpower availability, deployment & retention.
  • Identify 3 components of deficit demand that drive overtime.
  • Identify 2 characteristics that indicate erratic and fluctuating census.

The Essential Building Blocks for the Successful Charge Nurse© program is a comprehensive, evidence-based educational program offering a solid foundation to prepare Charge Nurses to be highly effective in their roles. LMI’s Essential Building Blocks for the Successful Charge Nurse© curriculum is fully cross walked with the AONL Nurse Manager competencies. It concentrates on leadership components, basic departmental finance concepts, staffing and scheduling, change management, evidence-based practice implementation, legal implications of the Charge Nurse role, conflict resolution, quality and safety, and lateral violence and bullying.

This is an evidenced-based seminar concentrates on the topics of financial management, evidence-based scheduling and staffing, and workforce management.

Program Structure: This program is available as a 1- or 2-day program.

  • The 1-day seminar provides theory.
  • The 2-day program provides 1 day of theory and 1 day of application.
